Five Elected Representatives and thirteen senior officers of Kolkata Municipal Corporation visited four Indian cities and interacted with key personnel on major climate-smart interventions of those respective cities. IPE Global facilitated the visits with support from British Deputy High Commission (BDHC), Kolkata.
This deliverable was planned in view of the fact that in certain Indian cities, city authorities and communities have demonstrated successful interventions for making the cities climate smart. These involved institutionalizing and implementing climate responsive and climate responsible actions, targeting both mitigation and adaptation.
The purpose of the exposure visits is to:
- Enrich KMC’s institutional capacity to respond to the opportunities and impacts of climate change
- Focus on providing information and knowledge on different aspects of environmental sustainability, including water management, waste management and energy security, in the context of climate change impacts in urban areas.
- Showcase efforts undertaken by city governments to mitigate impacts of climate change and adapt to it for climate sustainability.
The Commissioner KMC, requested respective Commissioners along with a tentative itinerary. Each city corporation responded adequately. The Mayor, KMC selected the Elected Representatives and the Municipal Secretary nominated the officers.
