Public Cycle Sharing: Delhi

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has launched a Public Bicycle Sharing (PBS) scheme to facilitate last mile connectivity and to encourage public transport. It has been observed that a number of commuters avoid taking the metro because of the problem of last mile connectivity. The cycle sharing scheme is envisaged to take care of this issue by providing a reliable mode of transport to commuters.

The facility has been started at the Saket metro station and is available in two more stations, where commuters can rent a cycle to go to nearby localities. An automated software would allow commuters to use the facility through a rechargeable smart card at multiple locations. This not only helps to improve connectivity, but also has added benefits of lowering emissions and promoting a healthy lifestyle among the citizens.
