Kolkata Municipal Corporation Mayor List: Kolkata Municipal Corporation which is the largest corporation in West Bengal. Starting from the maintenance of the city of Kolkata, drinking water, street drains, sewage cleaning etc. is done by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. From 1924, the Calcutta Corporation started voting in a democratic manner and Chittaranjan Das was elected as the first mayor of the Calcutta Corporation in 1924. KMC Mayor List (1924-2023): Presently the Mayor of Calcutta Corporation is Hon’ble Firhad Hakim, he has been the Mayor of Kolkata since 22 November 2018.  The Mayor of Calcutta was recognized as the first citizen of Calcutta. Kolkata is divided into 144 wards under the Corporation and these wards have one councilor each. Chittaranjan Das was the first Mayor of Calcutta Corporation, a very popular Indian freedom fighter named Deshbandhu.  That is why he is called Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das. In 1924, the first democratic elections of the Calcutta Corporation were held in which Chittaranjan Das was appointed as the first Mayor of Calcutta.  This great freedom fighter of India was born on November 5, 1970 in present-day Dhaka city of Bangladesh.  He was born in the family of a lawyer.  He studied at the Cream Seed University in England, after returning home he joined the National Congress and participated in India’s freedom struggle. Our brave freedom fighter passed away on June 16, 1925 at the age of 55.

He was the second Chief Minister of West Bengal for a total of 14 years.
